BASF is negotiating a new site agreement in Ludwigshafen
BASF and the works council are negotiating a new site agreement for the Ludwigshafen site. The focus is on avoiding redundancies and on comprehensive modernisation. At the same time, the chemical company is planning significant savings by 2026.

BASF has started talks with the works council on a new site agreement. The aim is to reach an agreement that takes into account both the planned restructuring of the Ludwigshafen site and the long-term security of jobs. A company spokeswoman confirmed to the German Press Agency that negotiations have begun.
The current site agreement, which excludes redundancies, runs until the end of the year. The works council emphasises that it wants to follow the proven success models of past agreements. These include a minimum term of five years, protective mechanisms for employees and investments in the site.
Planned savings and job cuts
BASF is pursuing a strategy that aims to save around one billion euros by the end of 2026. Implementing this strategy will result in job losses.
The company emphasises that the existing site agreement has already had positive effects and enabled necessary adjustments to be made at the site. It remains to be seen which specific measures the new agreement will include.
