BASF and Evonik resume plasticiser production after outages
In March, both BASF and Evonik had declared force majeure for a number of plasticisers. This was reported by the industry portal kunststoffweb.de. At BASF, according to the report, the outage was the result of a minor fire at the Ludwigshafen plant for oxogas, hydrogen and carbon monoxide in early March; at Evonik’s Marl plant, there was a malfunction in the pipeline system between the oxo alcohol and plasticiser production units.
Production starts up again
With reference to industry insiders, kunststoffweb.de reported that Evonik’s production in Marl restarted on March 29, 2021. BASF, according to the report, intends to operate the affected plant in Ludwigshafen again from April, initially at 30 to 40 percent of normal capacity utilisation.
