In a present work, an experimental setup was used to evaluate the effect of adding silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) to a polyurea coating on the heat transfer behavior of the coated steel tubes inside gas heaters. Moreover the protective properties of the pure polyurea and the polyurea containing different concentrations of the Ag-NPs were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) during 42 days. The results indicated that the heat transfer rate improves considerably by adding Ag-NPs to the polyurea coating.

High performance coating

The thermal evaluations demonstrated the polyurea coating containing 2 wt. % Ag-NPs indicates the ideal thermal performance in comparison with the bare steel pipe. Moreover, the EIS results revealed the corrosion behavior of the coating improves by adding Ag-NPs. In comparison with the pure polyurea, the presence of 2 wt. % Ag-NPs in the coating improves the coating resistance 1.7 times. The physical and chemical properties of the Ag-NPs in the polyurea matrix provide high performance coating for using in the gas heaters.
