Cyclic polymers as advanced materials for surface modification

Cyclic versus linear: Belgian researchers from University of Ghent have proved that cyclic polymers are superior to their linear counterparts in many respects.

Cyclic poly(2-oxazoline) have been shown to provide excellent shielding properties when grafted to TiO2 surfaces and Fe3O4 nanoparticles.

Superior antifouling properties

Reason for the behaviour is the ultrahigh grafting density of cyclic poly(2-oxazoline) leading to low friction surfaces, superior antifouling properties, and extreme nanoparticle stabilisation.
