Powder coating technologists have recently ventured into the use of renewable feedstocks to synthesize binder systems. Bio-based compounds have been successfully used to produce highly sustainable powder coatings. This review presents recent research on new binder components designed for powder coatings, including: (poly(limonene carbonate)s; polyester resins; polyamide resins; and crosslinking agents (urethane-acrylates, blocked polyisocyanates). The applications of bio-based materials in powder coatings are also highlighted in this review.
