Transparent nanocomposites for optoelectronic applications
Transparent nanocomposites, which are optically transparent and mechanically robust, have been drawn numerous interests for various applications, including adhesives, encapsulants, and other functional coatings. Researchers have now presented high-performance transparent nanocomposites with robust organic polystyrene nanoparticles (NPs) for optoelectronic devices.
Enhanced light-extraction
By optimising the crosslinker concentration, the NPs improved their thermal stability and solvent resistance, allowing the NPs to be utilised in broad fields. Based on the nanoindentation results, the scientists confirmed that the mechanical properties and elastic modulus were improved. They also verified that the light-emitting diode encapsulation with this nanocomposite can enhance light-extraction efficiency by up to 10%, thereby suggesting the high optical clarity of nanocomposites with organic NPs.
