Undoubtedly, sustainability is among the most discussed topics in the paints and coatings industry. Bio-based solutions have been gaining more traction as customers are seeking more sustainable options and regulations have also been underscoring this development. Bio-based coatings still have a relatively small market share, but the sector is growing. To gain insights into the current situation, we consulted experts to discuss the market for bio-based coatings in our market report (page 14), including growth opportunities and challenges. You can also find further insights into research trends in the Expert Voices section (page 18).

Moreover, in the focus paper Gabriele Costa and his team at Lamberti present a bio-based coating derived from tomato skins for sustainable paper packaging (page 20).

But apart from the focus topic of bio-based coatings, there are also other highlights in this issue. For instance, in the Top 25 (page 10) you will find our annual ranking of the largest coatings manufacturers in Europe.
