Birla Carbon opens Asia’s first post-treatment plant in India

Birla Carbon has announced the opening of its first post-treatment (APT) plant in Asia. The plant is located at the Patalganga site in the state of Maharashtra, India. This plant is set to transform the carbon industry by increasing flexibility, efficiency and precision.

The plant is designed to meet the growing demand for high-performance carbon black grades in key industries such as coatings and printing inks. Birla Carbon is a manufacturer of carbon-based solutions. Rajeev Sonthalia, director at Birla Carbon, explained: ‘The launch of the post-treatment plant in Patalganga is an important step for Birla Carbon in providing innovative technologies for our customers. Asia is a growing market for the carbon industry, and the strategic location of this plant will foster collaboration with our partners.

’The APT plant enables the production of carbon black grades specifically tailored to customer requirements through precise control of reaction times. It also offers clean product standards and positions Birla Carbon as a leader in sustainable, high-quality solutions.

Focus on growing Asian markets

In addition to traditional applications such as printing inks, automotive and industrial coatings, the plant also targets niche markets, including toy and tool coatings, where demand for low-pollutant products is growing. Thanks to its location in Patalganga, the plant offers advantages such as proximity to growing Asian markets and additionally supports production capacities in North America.
