Münzing puts new production plant into operation
Münzing has invested more than EUR 50 million and has now started production in the Zeitz Chemical and Industrial Park, the group’s largest Verbund site in Europe. 40 new jobs have been created in the region, which has been severely affected by structural change. There is the possibility of further expansion on land that is still undeveloped.
Products for the construction industry and architectural coatings
On an area of more than 20,000 m², the new plant produces water-based wax emulsions and other special additives such as defoamers in powder form. The products are mainly used in the construction industry and for architectural paints, and contribute to better processing and durability of plasters, exterior and interior paints in construction. In April 2022, the first batch of product was produced in the new plant. Currently, approximately 30 customers are being sampled with additional batches. The goal is to ramp up production to 100% by August 2022 and to produce a portfolio of up to 500 products at the site in the future.
According to the company, in addition to a complete networking of production, logistics and infrastructure via process control systems, great importance was attached to the most energy-saving design possible when planning the plant. This includes an in-house combined heat and power plant, which generates environmentally friendly electricity and heat, and a sophisticated system for recovering energy in all heating and cooling processes. Accordingly, 70 % of the energy used flows back into the production plant through the recovery process.
