Rocky road to REACH
More than half of the REACH registration dossiers do not comply with one of the seven data request which are examined, 27 % even fail to fulfill two or more. These are the results of the study the German Federal Institute for risk assessment conducted on behalf of the Environment Federal Agency (UBA).
How could the transition be improved?
With the end of the transition period in June 2018 on the horizon, I am wondering how the implementation of REACH for all chemicals could be made smoother. Maria Krautzberger, president of UBA says with regard to the study: “ECHA needs additional resources for the examination and registration. The situation will only improve if enough dossiers are examined and inadequate registrations are not accepted”. She also states that companies need to improve their dossiers.
I would be interested in hearing about your experiences. Do you feel prepared for 2018 and where do the main difficulties lie? Good sources for information and contacts are the websites of ECHA, the European Commission, the REACH-CLP helpdesk and Reach Ready.
