One of the many highlights at the European Coatings Show in Nuremberg in March 2023 will be the Pre-Conference Tutorials. They will take place on 26 March, the evening before the European Coatings Show Conference begins. These tutorials cover the most important topics in coatings and are aimed at newcomers, career changers and those who need to refresh their knowledge in a field.
Experts from the coating’s world will impart basic knowledge and current contexts on their topic in 4 hours. The participants can inform themselves and ask questions and thus use their visit to the European Coatings Show not only to inform themselves about the latest developments and innovations and to make contacts but also for their personal further education.
The topics this year cover functional coatings, adhesives and sealants, biocides and their legislation, polyurethane coatings as well as pigments and fillers. Moreover, tutorials for architectural coatings, fundamentals of colour and appearance, application technology, and anti-corrosive coatings are available.

We asked one of our experts, Dr. Volkmar Stenzel from Fraunhofer IFAM a few questions about his tutorial “Functional Coatings”:
What can participants expect from their seminar?
Dr. Volkmar Stenzel: The seminar gives an overview of the different approaches to the development of functional coatings. The various chemical and physical mechanisms leading to the specific surface functions are presented and discussed. Finally, practical applications are also presented.
Why are you exactly the right expert to convey this content?
Stenzel: At Fraunhofer IFAM, we have been working in the field of functional coatings for around 20 years and have now carried out a large number of application-related projects.
What is the current relevance of the seminar and why is it so important to always stay up to date?
Stenzel: In the seminar, the basics as well as the respective possible applications and also the limits of the respective processes are discussed. The development in this field, especially in the field of raw materials, is proceeding rapidly and it is simply necessary to keep yourself up to date on a regular basis.
