Architectural coatings in the focus of the January issue
Architectural coatings play a key role in how we live and work. Not only do they ensure a beautiful appearance of our environment, they also protect the building fabric and, at best, even healthy indoor air. Architectural paints also play an important role in megatrends like fighting the climate catastrophe. Roof coatings, for example, can help to absorb less solar radiation and reduce the heat build-up in buildings. This reduces the amount of energy required for air conditioning. The advancing climate crisis is now making such strategies marketable in Central and Northern Europe as well. Binders that can be used for such roof coatings are presented in our product overview starting on page 22.
Despite these challenges, the market is growing, especially in developing countries, as our market overview on page 18 shows. However, it is of course still important to satisfy the wishes of customers. For example, they increasingly ask for low-sheen paints that deliver resistance properties of high-sheen paints. The technology behind this is described in our technical focus article on page 24. You can find out even more in the free European Coatings Live Webcast on 24 January at 15:00 CET during which the author will provide further information on the technical article and answer your questions.
