The offset printing ink is patented worldwide for printing the inside of food folding boxes, whereby direct food contact is also possible. All raw materials used are approved for use in foodstuffs themselves.

A marketing license that refers to the food safety

The agreement stipulates that Epple will remain the owner of the intellectual property and Sun Chemical will receive a marketing license that refers to the food safety of the printing inks. The two companies have also agreed to jointly develop this platform technology for other potential applications.

Dr. Carl Epple, Member of the Management Board of Epple Druckfarben, commented: “We consider ourselves to be a pioneer in the development of sustainable inks for sheetfed offset printing. We are particularly proud to have developed this globally patented offset printing ink, which is approved for the internal printing of food packaging. We are very excited about the cooperation surrounding the marketing and potential further development of the ink system”.
