The paint market in Brazil has gone through a few difficult years, but seems to have bottomed out and has recently been developing slightly positively again. Sales are being driven above all by the growing middle class. Experts are forecasting annual growth of around 3.4% for the coming years. A market volume of over 2 billion litres is to be achieved by 2023.

After a lengthy review, the Brazilian paint market has bottomed out and in 2017 had a market volume of 1.68 billion litres, which corresponds to a value of approx. 3.86 billion EUR. 2018 also saw an upward trend.
Industrial segments of the Brazilian coatings market
The consumption of paints and varnishes in Brazil is mainly borne by the middle class, which uses paints in the context of house construction, renovations and the like. Accordingly, architectural paints account for the lion’s share of the domestic paint market. But the industrial segment cannot be neglected either.

The per capita consumption of paints and varnishes in Brazil is about 8.1 liters per year. By comparison, Germany consumes well over 20 liters.

The Brazilian paint market is dominated above all by a few larger companies. The 10 largest manufacturers have a market share of a good 70 %.
