July/August issue: Bio-based coatings in the focus

On the one hand, there are some areas where coatings from biological feedstock are commonly used. But fossil-based systems are still the standard and changing that will take some time. With this issue of the European Coatings Journal, we will give you some valuable insights into aspects of this transition. We discuss the current situation of the bio-based coatings market and a possible setback due to the Corona pandemic in our market overview on page 14. A brand-new bio-based technology is discussed in our main technical article by Stefan Friebel from Fraunhofer WKI et al. on page 20. He shows how a by-product from palm oil refineries can be used to create bio-based, hydrophobic and weather resistance coatings.
