June issue: Additives in the focus
Coating additives can be used in all kinds of formulations, be they solvent-borne, water-borne or based on powder. The good news is that water-borne systems are estimated to generate around half of the total demand for coating additives. Environmental awareness is apparently driving the demand for water-borne products.
However, as in most parts of the global economy, effects of the Corona pandemic are clearly noticeable here. The author of our market report (page 10) estimates the global coating additives market to have reached a size of EUR 7.7 billion in 2019, while he points out that the growth of this segment will remain uneven in the following years.
Additives for water-borne coatings are also at the centre of the main technical paper in this issue (page 16). Heike Semmler and her colleagues from Evonik analyse how surface control additives can be engineered to provide a range of benefits in water-borne coating formulations. The author will present even more details on this study at our monthly webcast European Coatings live on 23 June, 15.00 CET. Registration is free of charge.
