Effect pigments and the resulting effects are still hard to measure. In the focus paper, Werner Rudolf Cramer discusses influence factors like hardeners or gloss levels of clear coat on effect pigments. The author will also provide more information and answer questions at the European Coatings Live. The free webcast will take place on January 22 at 15.00 CET.

A survey of European coating manufacturers reveals that not everyone is optimistic about 2019. Issues of concern include the situation in the raw material market as well as the general political state of affairs, and the shortage of skilled labour is also a real challenge for many (page 10).

Increasingly stringent regulations are, of course, a constant theme for the international coatings industry. The restriction of diisocyanates is discussed starting on page 33 and Peter Maassen van der Brink, Vehicle Refinish Sector Group of CEPE, answers questions on this. Similarly, in the legislation section on page 34, Joachim Petzold and Stefan Sommer, Covestro, explain what the industry needs to do to prepare for the REACH restriction dossier for diisocyanates.
