Virtual conference on preservation
The web conference offers a varied two-day programme, highlighting the different biocide options for film and in-can solutions and how to switch to biocide-free formulations.
The event will kick off with a short course by Dr Anders Larsson of the RISE Institute. Larsson will talk on the institute’s research to inhibit microbial growth by making the living conditions less pleasant for the microbes. He will discuss how to handle the challenge in three key areas: the production of waterborne paints until the paints are stored in a closed can; the use of an opened can and storage of that and the paint film after application.
Afterwards, in the keynote Monika Lamoratta, Lanxess and Alexander Böhler, Remmers discuss their companies’ joint efforts to manage the challenges of BPR for plant hygiene and product preservation.
Regulation and sustainability
Biocides are a highly regulated field and Gabi Büttner of Umco will give a presentation entitled “Preservatives in the crosshairs of regulation – What does this mean in practice?” This presentation will give an overview of the status of the active substance evaluations, followed by an analysis of what the restrictions mean for the use of preservatives in paints and varnishes and what limitations can be imposed on labels, including the consequences for end-users.
Are preservative free products the way to go? Ingo Krull of Vink Chemicals aims to answer this question in his talk. The intention of this presentation is to discuss this issue with the focus on consumer safety. Krull will expand on consumer expectation, the target of the European Biocidal Products Regulation and new sustainable preservation concepts and strategies.
In addition to the fifteen talks over two days, the event will feature open discussion groups in the breaks (including audio and video) as well as Q&As.
